- Limonene is a very common terpene found in many sativa strains and, like its name suggests, can be found in lemons, oranges, and other citrus fruits. Imagine smelling a lemon; that is the same effect the terpene gives when heated. Take another whiff. Yes, how did that make you feel? Refreshed, energized, reinvigorated? This is the same effect when heated.
- Myrcene is the most common terpene found in cannabis flowers. This terpene is found in mango and thyme and has an earthy, musky aroma. Strains high in myrcene give a relaxing, sedative feeling. Cannabis high in this strain will definitely cure insomnia.
- Pinene, just as its name suggests, has a piney aroma. Reminisce about Thanksgiving and all the scents that fill the house; pinene is found in many of those spices. Pinene is also popular in many essential oils. So, if you enjoy the therapeutic smell of pumpkin pie, roasted turkey, and eucalyptus, then cannabis flower high in pinene is for you. It is known to calm the nerves and relieve pain.
While all of these terpenes, and many more, are found in just about all dispensary cannabis, the hack is to read the label and find the strain that is high in the particular terpene you enjoy most.
If you’re not sure where to start, then focus on the aroma you find most soothing. For me, it’s limonene with a bit of pinene, a little citrus and spice!
